Professor Livy Visano's research research examines: the intersections of capital, culture and consciousness; inequality, law and social justice; institutionalizing capital’s culture: inequality in everyday life. He is a Professor of Human Rights and his published scholarship and related contributions are organized three integrated and continuing intellectual interests: law, culture and inequality; law, culture and crime; and, law, culture and justice. The generic theme that sustains his research is the relationship between law and culture, further operationalized as the analysis of the relationship between ideologies and identities as mediated by institutions, that is, conditions that constitute the ideology-institution nexus. His scholarship has been recognized internationally with various awards from the Pontzen International Academy of Arts, Sciences and Literature, Naples, Italy for “This Idle Trade” to the Lord Ruthven Assembly Award (International Association for the Fantastic in the Arts, London, UK); SSHRC funded youth study; and, his invitation to be a Visiting Scholar at Summer School of Cultural Studies, Network in Cultural Studies and Research Unit for Contemporary Culture, University of Jyvaskyla, Finland.He is appointed to 11 graduate programs supervising dozens of doctoral students. Former Dean, Former Chair. He is currently Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Equity Studies.
