Title of the Project - Impact of Unionised Workplace on High Performance Work system (HPWS) - Statement of the Problem - The Japanese concepts of Teams vis-à-vis the American Orientation of Individualism has been taken conveniently in organizations to bridge over individuals as well as over team. Self Managed work teams are empowered teams which take over the responsibilities from the supervisors to collectively exert control over their work space. Thus the work based relationships lead to a LEAN-MEAN organization structure and setting. This approach suits well for an organization in an aggressive market space. Now-a-days, organizations are putting lesser emphasis on the hierarchical structures and thus moving towards a more equalitarian social system. The Superior, Subordinate and Peers are having a varied relationship through formal / informal, expressed / evolved styles at work. Objectives of the Study - The Researcher intends to study the following through case evaluations in an HPWS environment. 1. To identify the factors which affect the variables to enhance better productivity at workplace. 2. To study the expressed/ latent needs of the Union in creating a facilitating environment for achieving Management Objectives. 3. To study the Role adaptability of Managers in High performing Teams. 4. To study the factors which impact Employees to perform better in HPWS. Research design - The Researcher has selected “Ex-post facto” research design (he has no control over the variables studied and can only report what has happened or what is happening) with structured Data Collection through Questionnaire method. The reliability to the study will be reinforced through sample Observation and Interview techniques. Organizations Approached for Research - The following Manufacturing Organizations in India, have been approached for permitting Research 1. Nelcast – Leading Cast Iron & SG Iron foundry. 2. NIPPO Batteries – Manufactures Zinc Carbon/Manganese Batteries
