My current agenda continues work in areas I have addressed throughout my career: 1) social insurance policy and politics, with a book for CQ Press on the topic co-authored with Jerry Mashaw and John Pakutka published in 2014; 2) understanding the interplay of politics, health and health care---for a book of essays Yale Press published in 2012 as Politics, Health and Health Care: selected essays, with Rudolf Klein; and 3) comparative studies and policy analysis. The Social Insurance book was published in October of 2014.

Abstract: This book addresses the basic ideas the characterize social insurance programs in the US and elsewhere, what the programs have produced in the US in recent decades, and what merit there is in various proposals for "modernizing " Medicare and Social Security. It is fair to say that the book is critical of those celebrating market reforms as "modernization."
